Kathmandu January 19. In one month’s time Humla will finally be connected to the national road network. The installation of a bailey bridge over the Kawadi river in between Bajura and Humla will connect Humla by a motorable road. The Nepali Army is working on the Karnali corridor project that involves 145 km of road from Lalu of Kalikot to Sarisalla of Humla. Of the road, 40 km falls in Kalikot, 44 km in Bajura and the remaining in Humla. Vehicular traffic to Humla will be available after the bridge is completed. Within a month vehicles can play up to Galfagad of Adanchuli rural municipality of Humla, said Nepal Army captain Shanker Silwal at the Tithichaur camp of the Karnali corridor project. Following the completion of the bridge, 16 kms of road will be motorable in Humla. The compulsion of transporting daily essentials on mule, sheep and through porters will finally come to an end, said chair of Tajakot Maila rural municipality Bagdal Malla. The people of Humla were forced to walk for hours for lack of a motorable road in the district, while price of daily essentials was very high. This is expected to end bringing respite to the locals after a very long wait. Any resident of Humla has to walk for at least a week up to Kalikot to travel on a public transport by land or take the expensive aerial route. Nepal Army began working on the road on Chaitra 2071. The total cost of the stretch of the road is estimated to be around Rs. 2.84 billion.
