Over 4,500 Solukhumbu people rescued

Kathmandu April 30.
More than 4,500 people from different parts of Solukhubu district, currently living in Kathmandu Valley, have been rescued and brought to their homes after the announcement of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19 outbreak. They were rescued with special coordination of different local levels, said lawmaker Hem Kumar Rai (Shurbir). Chairperson of Thulungdudhkoshi rural municipality, Asim Rai, himself reached Kathmandu and brought people of his area back home, said chief administrative officer Abilal Rai. Similarly, mayor Namgeljanbu Sherpa and deputy-mayor Kalpana Rai of Solududhkunda municipality reached Kathmandu and rescued 799 people while Nechasalyan rural municipality brought 596 people. A total of 570 folks of Mapyadudhkoshi rural municipality were rescued, shared chairperson of the rural municipality, Buddhikiran Rai. Such number of people was rescued by collecting details through contact committee formed in Kathmandu. Similarly, 476 people of Mahakulung rural municipality, 320 of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality and around 300 of Likhu PK rural municipality were also rescued. Different local levels in the district started rescuing their people after April 24. Lawmaker Rai said the first-phase rescue was over. He also urged the rescued persons to stay at home quarantine for 14 days.
