Let’s have a look at some instances of how Nepal is gradually getting closer to China.

एबीसी / संवाददाता

Kathmandu January 22.

China has spent about two billion dolor on three government schools in Nepal. These Schools located  in Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk and Lamjung are just like five star hotels. Moreover, the Contractor Company of Chinese government built those schools faster than it was scheduled. In addition, China has assured to bring the Kerung-Kathmandu Railway through the Belt and Road Initiative project. There is also a plan to take the train from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Lumbini. At this moment, work has been underway for the improvement of the Kerung-Kathmandu roadway.

China agreed to become Nepal’s strategic partner country, during the Chinese President’s visit to Nepal. This is another important as well as serious topic, issue. Increasing cooperation between ruling Nepal Communist Party and the Chinese Communist Party along with the continuous visit of Chinese senior government officials, military officials and their parties have forced India to remain vigilant.

On the one hand, Nepalese people’s expectations from China are growing and on the other, China is increasing its military support for Nepal. China quickly built a police training institute for the armed police force in Kathmandu, Matatirtha. However, India’s construction of a police training institute for Nepal police has not been in progress yet in Saga, Kavre. This construction was panned nearly two decades ago.The Nepalese army’s dependence with India is gradually decreasing. The Nepalese army is now very close to China. Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwar Pokhrel visited China, a few months ago. There was bilateral meeting between the Defense Minister General Yi Feng of the Chinese Government and Ishwor  Pokrhel . His meeting and bilateral talks with Li Zhan Su, the president of the National People’s Congress, who is also a leader of the Chinese Communist Party made us clear that both the Chinese Communist Party and the government have given great importance to Pokharel’s visit to China.

The Chinese government agreed to assist in establishing a Defense University, Military cooperation, training, humanitarian assistance, medical material support, peacekeeping missions in Nepal. The Chinese government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of providing 150 million dolors to Nepal for disaster management for five years.

For Nepal, it is a matter of receiving a great support, while for China; there is strong evidence to prove that Nepal is a country of strategic importance.
