Kathmandu December 22. Incidents of human rights violations are found to have been increasing in Baglung district. The number of violations doubled this year in compared to the previous year. According to data released by Informal Sector Service Centre here Saturday, a total of 105 incidents of human rights violation took place in the 11 months of 2019. The number was only 57 in the same period in 2018, said INSEC district representative Srijana Pant. Lack of access to justice and the absence of awareness-raising campaigns against violence are reasons behind the rise in the number of human rights violations. During the period, 46 incidents of domestic violence, eight sexual assault, nine rape, five attempts to rape, 11 violation of civil and political rights, one each of threatening, assault over education institution, racial discrimination, human trafficking, and other incidents were recorded. The data was collected for the INSEC human rights yearbook 2020. Speaking at the program, Gandaki State Assemblymember Indra Lal Sapkota, Chief District Officer Luk Bahadur Chettri and other speakers called for serious efforts to curb the increasing incidents of human rights violations in the district.
